DIY Gold Ornaments

I was in the hobby shop and found this can of gold spray paint - super metallic finish! It gave me a  great idea for a little DIY.

I see a lot of these glass/metal figurines in boutiques and always thought I could make them myself - just needed the right paint finish and I finally found it.

I love the Smurf, I don't know why he has horns and is eating a carrot but it was kitsch enough to catch my eye in the toy store.

It was super cold outside when I did this so I had to spray them in the garage and bring them inside to dry.

 They looked like they were made of 24k Gold, awesome.

I will definitely be using up this can of spray paint soon, I can see a few golden Hello Kitty figurines in store for my sister and maybe a whole Smurf Nativity Scene for my coffee table.

Kitty in a Bag

Så søt and koselig!!
She  sooooo loves her new bed! Great project for a Sunday afternoon! I found the pattern at thezenofmaking but used an old towel instead of felt, sewed some rope into the top trim to finish it off and voillà … happy cat!

Feeling nostalgic for the Perfect Mixed Tape...

I used to spend hours on my bedroom floor amongst a pile of tapes and attempt to define myself through the immortal words of angst-filled grunge bands ( ok, ok, it started with Paula Abdul but my taste changed with the summer of 92 ) There's a natural progression that a mixed tape has to take to be a goodie. I love how John Cusack's charachter explains it in High Fidelity;

To me, making a tape is like writing a letter. There's a lot of erasing and rethinking and starting again. A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do. You've got to kick off with a corker, to hold the attention and then you've got to up it a notch, or cool it a notch, you can't have two tracks by the same artist together, unless you've done the whole thing in pairs and…oh, there are loads of rules.

HaHa, so true..so many rules. What a lost art, the manual labour of it…switching tapes, finding the song, rewinding, forwarding, releasing the Record button and Play simultaneously! Now I just dump songs onto my iPod and their lucky to be on my playlist at the end of the week, its all so disposable.

New Project I think?

I have always wanted a coffee table like this, I love the industrial/recycled element to it. Might just have to get hold of a pallet soon and get some casters from IKEA. Might even paint mine, yellow would be nice.

Just to clear things up

While it may look a hot-mess, Poutine is a super tasty combination of crispy french fries, cheese curds ( also known as squeakers )and piping hot brown gravy. Its the only thing I can think of when people ask me about a truly Canadian food. Postei,on the other hand, is basically liver pâté that is consumed en masse in Norway (and is not made of ground-up children like the label suggests ). While Canadian children generally smell like apple juice or Cheerios, Norwegian kids smell like leverpostei. One may say the other is gross but I say to each his own.
